GEF requires Eclipse.  We do not track the exact dependencies, but there are some.  For 3.0, our goal is to require only the rich-client platform (RCP).  This is a subset of Eclipse which does not include the IDE-specific features.  You should look into the RCP work and see if it suits your needs.  There are lots of people like yourself waiting to use JFace and the workbench in a non-IDE manner.

Hi,

sorry for greenhorn questions:

1. is it possible to use GEF in apps outside ECLIPSE. We aim to build a SWT app to do a workflow designer  job. We dont want to use many of features of the IDE? Eclipse 2.x vs Eclipse 3.0 ...  Any comments welcome.

2. Does anybody have such an experience ..  when searched over the Net not many posts found to compare GEF and other Java based diagramming component like http://www.nwoods.com JGo

Ivan
