Re: [europa-build-workshop] Re: CBI (was: Re: EMFT, ECF, and Common Build Infrastructure)

Sorry, I guess I'd lost track of this thread, but I'd like to chip in my
$0.02 anyhow...

I think Pete Mackie may have mentioned this at one point, but have you
guys thought about Continuum at all? It looks like what you're doing
here is a lot like an advanced continuous integration setup. If
Continuum could get you 80% there, it might be worth writing/refactoring
the web UI to call Continuum, rather than reinvent the wheel...

I didn't understand how similar these cases were, until I saw Andrew's
whiteboard pic. :)

What do you think?

I need to set up a lot of that just for maintaining the Modeling projects.
My primary goal of course is to make MY life easier, with the longer term
goal of making it easier for others too. Once it's stable and in use by all
the projects, I'd be happy to float it out to the community or to Denis or
whoever wants to take a crack at some of the maintenance of it, so that
it's not just on my shoulders. If it becomes something that's run at the
foundation (like the committer tools at dev.eclipse.org), that would make
it all the more available for smaller projects to adopt.

Not sure that answers your question, though. ;-)

Regarding CBI, my plan for Modeling has been to wait until

Cool. So should we even say anything to the Foundation? When we were
in Portland, I was envisioning something close to the attached image.
That's roughly based on Red Hat's current build system. IMHO the
Foundation would be offering a great service to the community by
implementing, maintaining, and documenting/helping others with such a
system. But perhaps I'm in the minority. If so, I'm not even sure if
it's worth writing any sort of report since there would be little for
the Foundation to do outside of Denis' current work.

Thoughts?
