What do you mean be the Eclipse 4.2 disrto?  The Equinox Juno (3.8) release includes the metatype implementation (http://download.eclipse.org/equinox/drops/R-3.8-201206081400/index.php).  Parts of the Equinox Juno (3.8) release are consumed by and packaged into the Eclipse Project for their 4.2 release.  But the Eclipse project does not package every bundle included in the Equinox release.  Metatype is not used or packaged with the Eclipse 4.2 release.  The Eclipse Indigo (3.7) release also did not include the metatype implementation.

Looking at the Eclipse 4.2 distro, I don't see any implementation of the MetaTypeService anymore. In 3.x there used to be a equinox.metatype bundle that would register this service.

I couldn't find any information about this on the Equinox web pages, so does anybody know what happened to it?
