Re: [equinox-dev] Re: Graduate JSP Support

This is a side note to what you are discussing:

I noticed when I was using the http.registry plug-in, when I wanted to move from a pre-graduation tag to a post-graduation tag I had to modify the repo. Which mean it was a lot more work to fiddle the map files then just setting the tag from the command line. Same thing for pulling tags or diff'ing the code.

It'd be nice if when thing graduated the CVS history were actually copied over (or some subset of it) as opposed to checked out and re-imported into a new CVS history.

(Tongue in cheek)...
For a clean way of dealing with CVS issues, my experience tells me to stop using CVS. I can see all sorts of reasons why Eclipse can't do this.

I've tried several times to deal sanely with this, and CVS's reliance on filesystem layout makes this extremely difficult.

In general we have not *moved* folders about because that breaks anyone
who was, for example, building from tagged versions. In the incubator we
could perhaps think about doing that. I'm open. The Incubator repo area
could use a bit of a cleaning... Anyone else got some thoughts?

Good idea.

I've done a little additional work and versioned, cleared-out, and left a
readme for the following obsolete or graduated projects:
org.eclipse.equinox.http.jsp
org.eclipse.equinox.jetty.http
org.eclipse.equinox.jsp.jasper
org.eclipse.equinox.jsp.jasper.registry
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.bridge
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.bridge.feature
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.bridge.http
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.bridge.launcher
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.ext
org.eclipse.equinox.servlet.httpservice

--

Although these projects are now empty, the project folders remain.
To avoid clutter I wonder if we could perhaps move old projects to a
separate "archive" folder?
Any other ideas here?

If you haven't already can you version off HEAD in the incubator projects
and than clear out the content leaving a README.TXT that points to the new
location for the work?

      <equinox-dev@xxxxxxxxxxx> JSP Support

Hi all,

The JSP work has graduated into the main depot and can now be in CVS at:
/cvsroot/eclipse/org.eclipse.equinox.jsp.jasper
/cvsroot/eclipse/org.eclipse.equinox.jsp.jasper.registry

All future development will occur in their new home.
These projects have not yet been added to the build but should be in for
M6.
