Re: [epp-dev] EPP 2024-03 RC2

Thank you Ed for running through all the packages.

I hope all the package testers have a chance to test the package specific functionality.

+1 CPP on Linux x86-64

I've tested installing the "all" product from the SimRel and EPP repo and with JustJ 21.0.2.  It looks quite good with no startup errors in the log, just this harmless warning:

https://github.com/eclipse-jeetools/webtools.javaee/issues/5

Visiting all preferences is mostly good though with these issues:

https://github.com/eclipse/gef/issues/118
https://github.com/eclipse-pdt/pdt/issues/260
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=583004

Installing each product with JustJ 21.0.2 is as follows below:

__________

Scout, visiting all preferences has this error in the the log so probably something else should be installed in that product:

Project facet jst.ejb has not been defined. It is used in plugin org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.

________

RCP has this error in the log on startup:

Referenced part does not exist yet: org.eclipse.jdt.ui.PackageExplorer.

Visiting all preferences works fine.

____________

PHP starts clean and has this warning in the log visiting all preferences:

Configuration element ConfigurationElementHandle [name: proposalComputerExtendedActivation, id: org.eclipse.wst.jsdt.web.ui.ContentAssistProposals, handle id: 10384, namespace: org.eclipse.php.ui] intented to extend an existing completion proposal computer specified an invalid completion proposal computer ID org.eclipse.wst.jsdt.web.ui.ContentAssistProposals

as well as the error reported via this  (from Nov last year):

https://github.com/eclipse-pdt/pdt/issues/260

________________

Modeling starts clean and has the error reported via this from January 12

https://github.com/eclipse/gef/issues/118

(I suppose I have to fix that personally because no one else will do it and produce new builds and a new release.)

__________

JEE starts with no errors and this avoidable warning:

https://github.com/eclipse-jeetools/webtools.javaee/issues/5

Visiting all preference pages works without errors.  (See that is possible to achieve!)

_________

Java starts without errors and can visit all preference pages without errors.

_________

EmbedCPP starts without errors and can visit all preference pages with only a few fussy Linux tools warnings about invalid page state.

But then my machine starts to overheat because apparently "Update RPM packages proposal list" really needs to run really a lot.  Progress shows a job coming and going, so there is no way to stop this processing.  Restarting helps.

_______

DSL starts without errors and can visit all preferences without errors and even without warnings.

_______

CPP is just like EmbedCPP with the same tendency to set my machine on fire after visiting all preference.

________

Committers starts clean and only complains about freezes when I visit all preference pages, but these are very minor (< 1.2 seconds) for PDE preferences and < .6 seconds for JDT preferences.

________

So all looks good and all appears to function fine running on Java 21.

Cheers,
Ed
