Re: [epp-dev] EPP 2021-12 M3

Thanks, Martin.

As I observe rsync traffic, I see content for all these directories:

2.0G    /localsite/download.eclipse.org/releases/2021-12/202111191000/
34G     /localsite/download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/downloads/release/2021-12/M3
3.2G    /localsite/download.eclipse.org/justj/jres/17/updates/release/17.0.1
1.2G    /localsite/download.eclipse.org/oomph/epp/2021-12/M3
4.0G    /localsite/download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/S-4.22RC1-202111171830

Sending 44G to ~25 mirror sites is 1.1TB of transfer.  There is likely a lot of repetition. These releases are getting humongous.

As mentioned, jdtls moved 50G to a "trash" folder, which was equally seen as new content for mirrors, as trash is not excluded from rsync. So over 2T of new content in a couple of days has us swamped.

In the past week, we've been observing higher than usual activity/saturation with rsyncs on the downloards.eclipse.org server and have been making moves to resolve some issues around unused project artifacts. We've started to migrate older artifacts to the archive.eclipse.org server, as well as removing some directories that should not have been on downloads.e.o creating large rsync traffic and slowing down propagation (see https://github.com/eclipse/eclipse.jdt.ls/issues/1946#issuecomment-974081951 and previous mailing list topics around migration for more information).

We have added some extra bandwidth to this server to attempt to resolve this issue faster, but this will take time to settle and resolve. We appreciate your patience as the wheels in the server churn.

Thanks, everyone!

Looking into the failures now, we'll get back to you when we have more information. Results are a little inconsistent at the moment, and I'm working with our backend IT team to try and root down an issue.

Nitin,

No, for me it shows mirrors choices, sort of because the packages don't seem to have mirrors:

The installers were promoted to download.eclipse.org on Wednesday...

Here for the package, I cannot select another one:

My impression is that mirroring is working not so well these days. I can see that this mirror really does have M3, but only parts of it:

http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/eclipse/technology/epp/downloads/release/2021-12/M3/

This one has more, including this:

http://ftp.fau.de/eclipse/technology/epp/downloads/release/2021-12/M3/eclipse-java-2021-12-M3-win32-x86_64.zip

Something is not quite right...

Anyone else seeing odd behavior on the individual platform and package page, where it seemingly only reloads the page when you click on the big Download button or filename link, leaving only the "Direct link to file (download starts immediately from best mirror)" as functional? Is that from a lack of mirrors this early?

Hi everyone,

Our next milestone build is available for testing: EPP 2021-12 M3

There are a range of issues / things to note:

- The php and scout packages have not had a report back that they work in more than a couple of release cycles. Is someone still testing scout or php package?
- 2021-12 M3 contains macOS AArch64 packages and they should now appear linked on the Downloads page
- The macOS AArch64 now contains the native components from CDT's contribution. Can someone test if the Terminal view is working properly for local shells?
- While Upgrades fail under some circumstances (see Bug 576506) this time it ran fine for me by having Eclipse on the same drive as tmp.
- Mac notarization failed for exactly one package (parallel on aarch64). See Bug 573875

I have been following the steps on https://hackmd.io/@jonahgraham/eclipse-epp-release-process - you can see the checkmarks as to what is done.

EPP was built with the p2 repositories at:

https://download.eclipse.org/staging/2021-12 and

Please test and send your +1 to this mailing list. +1s are optional as the package will be published anyway.

Last +1 received for each package and platform (apologies if I missed one of your +1 emails, just let me know and I will update LastRecorded+1.txt)
