I am dropping this request and we'll do some proper product builds in CDT and continue to ship via CDT's channels.
(PS I don't think the marketplace is a suitable place because, as I understood it, the marketplace is where you get addons to your existing install - I am talking about the entry level download)

Your idea would achieve a lot of the
technical improvements I would like to see for building the CDT standalone
debugger. It would also save me from my fallback plan which was to fork
(copy?) EPP's repo to build the standalone debugger from.
What do others think?
