AFAICT, Gunnar added org.eclipse.tips.feature to the Java package in Bug
534617, but I've found quite a few annoyances within just a few minutes
of testing [1, 2, 3], so the feature (which I like, fundamentally) may
not be ready yet for Photon.

I have commented on your issues. There are two bugs of which the HiDPI issue on 18.04 is the most pressing. I will fix these two for RC3.

 

Also, the *only* tips present right now in the Java package are tips
about how to use the tips framework itself. No tips about JDT, about
m2e, about Buildship. Maybe I am missing something. Wim? Gunnar?

RC2 contains the 20 or so most popular Java tips. After that, creating Tips is basically the responsibility of individual projects.

 

Instead, there's tips like the "ActionTips" tip with the IMHO
unprofessional looking "Eclipse rocks, Idea scissors" demo action.

We are in the process to reduce the number of Tips for Tips [1] for RC3. This was POC anyway. I will remove that action from that tip. I was just clowning around with tip actions and forgot to remove it,
