Is this something that can help other Eclipse projects as well?

The improvement on Tycho side can be reused by any project that build a p2 repo to extract a subpart of it.
But I don't have an idea of another project that does that beyond EPP. Maybe Amalgam?

On 2nd thought, the part about skipping the `assemble-repository` step when building a .product with Tycho could be profitable to any project building a .product and not caring about the intermediary p2 repo. Platform could be one of the project taking advantage of this, but as it builds less products, it wouldn't make such a big difference (most of the time of Platform build is spent in tests usually). I'll try to investigate later.
