Re: [epp-dev] Requesting EPP package respin to fix preference recorder problems with WTP

Hi everyone,

you are certainly monitoring the cross-projects mailing list, aren't you? In that case you have seen that we are in the unfortunate situation that we need to rebuild *all* packages anyway. While I think that this bug here isn't a stop-ship bug and wouldn't qualify for a respin itself, I don't expect any bad consequences from the required change in the default preferences, and it seems to be an important improvement for the community of this package.

I've created change https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/50403/ and will push it to the repository if it looks good.

Thanks,
Markus

For what it is worth I think this one warrants a respin not only

This issue is so subtle that I only now realised that this behavior is what caused
me to think something was seriously broken in Mars. Seeing preferences go and come
and what this bug explains is exactly what I now realize i've been seeing.

+1 for respin disabling this and then fix whatever we can for SR1 around Oomph's
default handling of this.

I have opened   Bug 470430 - OOmph preference recorder causing unexpected
results
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=470430

Proposing a one line change disabling the preference recorder on by
default

I feel this problem justifies a respin, and the fix will allow users to
"opt-in" to the function if desired.

Recorder By     Default?

The behavior is not ok from a usability perspective, i.e. as a user I
would expect that disabling the preference recorder once (in one
workspace) also disables, applying global preferences in that workspace.
However, given that there is a workaround available (e.g., disabling the
setup tasks) I don't see a need for a re-spin and instead deliver a fix
with SR1.

I'd say we are past the deadline to rebuild the packages unless someone
tells us that this is a no-go, and we all come to the conclusion that it
is a stop-ship bug. The last build of the packages was last week's RC4,
and there are currently no plans to rebuild the packages.
