Re: [epp-dev] Juno M1 EPP packages

I do not know about other Linux distributions, but do know there are other apps that have trouble running their 32 bit versions on 64 bit versions of Ubuntu 11.04 (or, Mint 11),  due to some change in the ia32-libs. See Ubuntu bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ia32-libs/+bug/783155

Unfortunately, that was closed as "won't fix" claiming that the 32 bit apps are built incorrectly (having an over reliance on "32 bit" when "no architecture" would suffice, for linking some libraries). I certainly do not have the depth of knowledge to know a) if true, and b) if the same thing we see with 32 bit Eclipse, but for good measure, I opened Eclipse bug
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=354786

I did some testing and was fairly impressed how well the Java package works already. I filed a couple of bugs that I found in Mylyn and platform but no show stoppers on Gtk/64-bit so far.

The experience is fairly bad when running the 32-bit version on a 64-bit Ubuntu 11.04 though. It might be an incompatibility with the particular Gtk version that causes controls to only show on hover and to be drawn partially. Also the size of controls is not calculated correctly.

Is anyone else seeing these problems when running on the Gtk/32-bit packages on other Linux distributions?

Hi *,

there is a build available for Juno M1 that waits for testing...

If there are not too many show stoppers I'd like to declare this one as our Juno M1 EPP build. I am sure we will find many bugs and problems since this is the first build based on platform 4.2 M1 (and not 3.x), but we need to find them early and not late in the development cycle to give the platform team a chance to fix them. Package maintainers, can you please report on this mailing list whether you agree to make this build available to the public? From what I've seen so far it works amazingly well, at least a few basic tests with the RCP/RAP package were successful.

(At the moment, the Scout packages has a dependency that cannot be resolved; therefore this package is missing in the build and I hope to get it back in time for M2.)

((And yes, there will be another build for Indigo SR1 RC1 this week... I'll write about it when it is available.))

Thanks,

Markus
