Hi Natalia,

The point of embedding "Develop
solution increment" in "Develop the architecture" is to
emphasize the the architecture should be implemented.
However, there may be development work
in support of other goals that might not be strictly architectural, for
example, you may want to implement some key features early to to get user
feedback.  So other development work may be going on in parallel.

Others have also found this distinction
confusing, so in other delivery processes, such as the new practices-based
RUP delivery processes, I have tended to put architecture and develop increment
activities in parallel.

OpenUP is intended to be customized,
so you should feel free to use either approach.

We Natalia and Leandro from San Luis, Argentina. We are currently developing the thesis for the degree of Bachelor of Computer Science at the Universidad Nacional de San Luis. This thesis is based on OpenUP automation using workflow technology. We contacted Mr. Ricardo Balduino who graciously answered some questions and put us in touch with mail list.

The questions are:

 

1) Which of these two tasks is done first? ("Develop Solution Increment or Refine the Architecture)

Our doubt arises because research found this site  http://process.osellus.com/sites/wiki/openup/Wiki%20Pages/WorkDefinition%20-%20Develop%20the%20Architecture.aspx, where first perform the task "Refine the Architecture" and then the activity "Develop Solution Increment", contradicting the established order in the process.

 

 

2) What is the purpose in this phase have two activities " Develop Solution Increment" ?
