Res: Res: [epf-dev] Guideline: Translating Method and Process Content

Hi Ricardo,

Yes, the tool can be used to handle HTML files as well as text, xhtml, .properties (java resource bundles) and Open Office files.

I created a yahoo group  epf-dev-ptb@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and i just want to say that all friends around the world are very welcome to join us.

To subscribe the group just send an e-mail to epf-dev-ptb-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx , or go to yahoo groups and search for epf-dev-ptb.

Hi (Oi) Paulo,

Great initiative to look for tools that can automate this translation process. I never used these tools you mentioned, do you know if they can run on HTML files as well? The reason I'm asking, besides the reasons pointed out in the guideline referred below, xmi files may be harder to read, translate and merge than HTML files. The HTML can have markers that tell which areas you can translate, which you can not, so you don't erase/change metadata information.

But by all means, the community/contributors may come up with the strategy they feel most comfortable with, so again, great idea and keep the ball rolling in creating a Brazilian community for translating EPF content. Ah, by the way, there are people in Portugal interested in translating content as well :-)

And please let me know if you create a Yahoo group for that matter. I'd be more than willing to join it.

Oi Amigos,

I was thinking about some tasks we can do to start the job.

1 - Create a Portuguese mail lists in Yahoo groups to translators discuss terminology issues (Who can do it ?)

2 - Find tools to help us to translate the contents.
I made some tests with an open source translation memory tool called OmegaT http://www.omegat.org/omegat/omegat.html, and translated xmi
files directly. To detect the changes in the baselined library we can use WinMerge http://www.winmerge.org

3 - If we'll be able to translate the xmi files directly, we have to map those files and assign then to collaborators.

Everybody is welcome to join the discussion,

Cheers,

Paulo Moreira

As promised, here's a draft of a guideline on how to translate content under the EPF project.
There have been various offers for translation of content, and we've been in need of some guidance to allow this effort to start and run smoothly.

In this draft, there are some recommendations on how we could proceed, and what is the infrastructure needed for the translation effort.

I'd like to primarily encourage committers to provide feedback and discuss some areas that are still open in the guideline. Community is free to join the discussion.

Please provide feedback as comments/attachment on the appropriate Bugzilla entry: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176053.

The file is also attached here for your convenience.

Thank you,
