Below is some feedback on OpenUP forwarded to me directly due to

Hi,

Apologies for replying to you direct and not to the newsgroup - I'm
having trouble with our firewall letting me receive and post to it
directly.

If you decided not to use OpenUP, please explain why.
We are using it - we were looking at deploying RUP but found it way too
large and unwieldy. OpenUP appeared just in time.

How successful were you in deploying OpenUP? What specific problems did
you encounter (e.g. lack of training, couldn't understand a particular
guideline, etc)? What parts of the process were easy to deploy?
Some experience with Method Composer and RUP so didn't have to many
problems getting it up and running. We are concentrating on
requirements and testing as a first step and just having a central set
of tasks, guidelines and checklists is proving really useful. We are
introducing Use Cases for the first time in this organisation - I think
more examples would be useful in our situation - just so people can
'get' the idea more easily. We have a real mixed bag of experience here
and a limited training budget.

Are you using it as-is or are you modifying it?
We are using the Process as-is with minor modifications - some role
names have been changed and a couple of work products have been added.
Links have been put in to our existing Testing and Project Management
Framework.

If you're using EPF Composer, to what extent are you modifying OpenUP
(e.g. minor text changes, replacing templates, changing entire
disciplines, etc)?
We've changed some text, replaced templates, added work products and
associated templates, added guidance and links to other internal web
sites, changed some role details - nothing major - all mostly cosmetic
to fit in with our organisation.

What are the characteristics of your project (head count, timeframe,
industry, greenfield or maintenance, successful delivery, etc)?
We are an IT Solutions unit in local government in the UK. We have
about 50 staff in the area we are looking to deploy OpenUP. We are
currently piloting it in 3 small projects, each with 2-3 people
involved. One is enhancement/maintenance, one is procurement of a COTS
system and one is greenfield in-house development on a fairly small
scale. All are going well at the moment.

If there is any more specific feedback you'd like then we'd be happy to
help out - as only 2 or 3 of us have RUP / DSDM / Agile knowledge we
didn't feel 'expert' enough to contribute!! We're finding both the tool
and the process really useful and would like to thank everyone involved
for a great product.

Regards
