Seems like there are a TON of tags in EMF files. For example, if I take 
a look at

/cvsroot/modeling/org.eclipse.emf/org.eclipse.emf/plugins/org.eclipse.emf.mapping.ecore2xml.ui/about.html,v

I see a tag matching the timestamp of the EMF 2.6.0 R201006141136 build:

build_201006141136:1.5

Is that the timestamp, tag, and file version you're looking for in the 
CVS ,v files?

If so, the mapping is VERY straightforward:

R201006141136 :: build_201006141136
