[egit-dev] Handling binary files

Hello dear EGit developers,

What is the recommended way to declare a given file extension to be treated as binary by EGit/JGit? (to prevent EOL characters to be messed up in *.foo files)
I don't know what to use between:
- The Team/File Content preferences (are they taken into account by EGit?)
- The $GIT_DIR/info/attributes file (what I would use with plain git, but is this supported by EGit/JGit ?)
- A .gitattributes file in my repo
