I found several posts about the same problem and the answer is always the same, do not select that component, I know it is optional, but in this case I need it.
How can I install this component?

I tried with a freshly installed Luna SR2 committer package and also with the Luna SR2 JEE package and could install

EGit 4.0.1 including the EGit Task focused interface successfully. 

On which exact Eclipse package and version did you try to install EGit 4.0.1 ?

Another possibility is you used the direct URL for the EGit update site in the install dialog and you have "Contact all update sites during install to find required software" deselected.
