The most recent egit-github version on Central is 2.1.5, which dates
way back to 2013-04-30, whereas the git repository currently has
version 4.0.0 snapshots.

Super! Thanks. I had tried googling for "eclipse maven repository", but that understandably turned up stuff about using the Eclipse IDE with Maven repos rather than info about the Eclipse Foundation's own Maven repos.
