one question: One of Code Recommenders' components (Snipmatch) depends
on EGit. Now, AFAIK EGit is at +2 in the release train and Code
Recommenders is at +3, but I wonder what is the recommended update site
to build against in order to detect possible breakage early (as we use a
few internal EGit classes)?

EGit has a release train offset of +3, you can build against the stable-3.6 branch,
