FOUNDATION UPDATES

Eclipse Foundation Brand Perception Survey

The Eclipse Foundation brand perception survey is still open until December 14th! If you haven’t already, please take 5 minutes of your time to let us know what you think about the Eclipse Foundation brand and help us represent the Eclipse community better. Take the survey today!

As well, we'd like to ask for your help to promote the survey through your various social channels. By gaining more feedback from a wider audience, we'll be able to better understand the impact of the changes made over the past 12 months with our brand strategy, and where we can continue to improve.

Click here for a sample tweet for your use in promoting the survey.

Reminder: Updates Coming to Committer and Contributor Agreements

As was introduced in the November 2018 Member Newsletter, the Eclipse Foundation is in the process of updating all of our Committer and Contributor Agreements. The updates are being made to enable the Foundation to begin hosting open source specification projects. Details about the changes can be found in the blog by Mike Milinkovich. Please read that communication carefully, and if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to communicate with us via license@xxxxxxxxxxx.

We have just started the actual process, reaching out to a small number of people for them to sign these new versions of the agreements. The process will be expanded to all committers and contributors, and to member companies, over the coming weeks. There is no action required by contributors or committers until contacted by staff about updating their agreements.

We thank everyone in advance for supporting this update!

MicroProfile Business Values eBook and Member Funded Initiatives

Have you grabbed yourself a copy of the MicroProfile Business Value ebook? This publication provides a high-level overview of the business value that the MicroProfile project can bring to an organization that is faced with the challenges of evolving into a world where containers, microservices, cloud, open source, and enterprise Java intersect.

This eBook was produced under the auspices of the Member Funded Initiatives Program.  In this case, a big thank you goes to Red Hat who contributed funding to drive marketing initiatives in support of the Eclipse MicroProfile project.

Member funded initiatives are intended to provide funding for initiatives that are of interest to a particular member, group of members, or working group. The funding is used by the Foundation to drive the initiative to the benefit of the Eclipse community.  Examples of funded initiatives include code development, marketing, community development, etc. Read here to find out more, or to engage with the Foundation in a member-funded initiative.

Coming Soon: Eclipse Foundation Board Elections

Nominations open in early January for the Committer Representative and Sustaining Member Representative positions on the Board of Directors. The 2019 term runs from April 1, 2019 through March 31, 2020.

These Board positions are an important part of the Eclipse Foundation’s governance, and we encourage everyone to participate in the elections process and to consider offering to serve as a representative.  Self-nominations are welcome. Watch for more information in the January Member Newsletter and on the member-committer email list.

Eclipse Open IoT Challenge 5.0

The deadline for submissions in our Eclipse IoT Working Group's 5th annual Open IoT Challenge is coming up!

This challenge stems from the belief that IoT will be based on open standards and open source technology, and this developer competition intends to highlight how those can be used to build great solutions.

This year's challenge has a prize pool of $5,000+ and is sponsored by Contact Software, Intel, and Eclipse IoT. So, if you're interested in participating, please submit your proposal by Dec. 7th, 2018. Participants will have until April 12, 2019, to build their IoT solutions and the winners will be announced on April 26, 2019.
