EclipseWorld has offered the organization a booth were we could distribute
information and also offered to put literature in the conference bag.  Is
this something we want to do?

We would like to arrange an Eclipse Marketing Symposium on September 21 at
the Wyndham Hotel, Chicago O’Hara Airport.  The objective of the Symposium
is to learn from the successes and failures of marketing Eclipse based
products.   At the end of the symposium, the attendees should have a good
appreciation of the best practices for marketing commercial products to the
Eclipse community.





Below are some suggested topics for the Symposium.  I would be interested
in the following feedback.


1)       Based on the topics below would you plan on attending the Eclipse
Marketing Symposium on Sept 21 in Chicago?


2)       What topics are of the most interest to you?  Least interest?  We
have a limited period of time so unfortunately we won’t be able to cover
everything.





Based on the interest and participation, we will send out a final agenda
and details for attending.

Proposed Topics





-          Invite Carl Zetie from Forrester Research to present his
research on the adoption of Eclipse in the Enterprise.


-          Invite Stephen O’Grady from Redmonk to discuss how you can
leverage blogs, wikis, tagging to tap into the developer community


-          Invite Evans Data to present their market research on current
developer trends


-          Overview of the marketing resources from the Eclipse Foundation


-          Overview of the Eclipse project roadmap and strategy


-          Budgeting for Eclipse related marketing activities


-          Invite representatives from Eclipse member companies to present
short (10 minute) case studies and discussions on a variety of topics,
including:


o        Successful Google ADWord campaign – what worked and what didn’t


o        Press and analyst campaign – what reporters cover Eclipse and
successful approaches


o        Pricing strategies


o        Overview of Eclipse in different geographies, Japan, Germany,
France, etc.


o        Presenting an ROI proposition for Eclipse products


o        Banner Ads – which portals drive the most traffic


o        Experience of a small company selling an Eclipse product


o        Experiences of a large company selling an Eclipse product


o        Experiences marketing to embedded developers


o        Leveraging with different partner programs (for example: IBM or
SAP partner programs)


o        Other topics can be added based on interest and available
presenter?


-          We can also consider having break-out sessions.   Topics could
include:


o        Best practices of marketing Eclipse based products


o        Collaborative marketing programs that member companies could
participate in with the Eclipse Foundation


o        Eclipse in the embedded market


o        What are the opportunities around Eclipse RCP


o        Feel free to suggest other topics?
