EclipseCon 2012 and Agile ALM Connect starts in less than 2 weeks on March 26   We are gearing up for another great week of technical content and networking, so we hope you can join us!

Advanced registration for the conference will be open until March 23.  You can register onsite but the cost increases by $200.  Also, we encourage you to book a hotel room in advanced.   The Hyatt hotel is sold out but there are rooms still available at a nearby Westin and Sheraton.

Hello Eclipse members and committers,

It is hard to believe that EclipseCon 2012 and Agile ALM Connect start in less than three weeks on March 26. We are very excited about holding these events in a new location in Reston, Virginia (very close to Washington, D.C.).

The technical program this year is very strong. We have a great line-up of expert speakers, case studies from industry, and insightful talks from many industry analysts. EclipseCon 2012 will be a great opportunity to learn about the new Eclipse 4 platform, domain specific languages (DSLs), Eclipse Orion, updates on Eclipse Modeling, and the latest on OSGi and Eclipse RT. It is another learning bonanza.

The response we are getting to the new Agile ALM Connect conference has been very positive. This co-located conference is the perfect place to learn about the tools and Agile best practices that organizations use across the lifecycle. We have expert speakers talking about open-source projects like Git, Gerrit, Selenium, Sonar, Maven, Hudson, and much more. Agile ALM Connect is ideal for technical people who want to improve the entire software development lifecycle.

Eclipse member companies and committers can also participate in the New Product Showcase at EclipseCon.   If you have a product or project that was first release in 2011, this would be a great opportunity to get feedback from the EclipseCon attendees.  There is no cost to participate but you do need to pre-register.

Finally, please don't forget the annual Eclipse Members' General Meeting will be Monday, March 26 at 3pm in the Reston Suites B at Hyatt Hotel, the same location as EclipseCon.  Employees of member companies and all committers are welcome to attend.  A more detailed agenda will be sent out shortly.

As you know, EclipseCon is all about networking and learning from the entire Eclipse community. We hope you will register today and join us again for EclipseCon 2012 in Reston.

Once again at EclipseCon we will be hosting a new product showcase.   This is an opportunity for our member companies and new Eclipse projects to demonstrate their products to the conference attendees.  The conference attendees will also be voting on the Hot New Product Award announced at the end of the showcase.

The product or project must be first available sometime after January 1, 2011.  It must also be based on Eclipse or a plugin for Eclipse.

We encourage everyone in the Eclipse community -- committers, users, contributors, plugin developers, member companies -- to submit a speaking proposal. The four themes for EclipseCon 2012 are Innovations in Eclipse Projects; Best Practices Using Eclipse; Making Open Source andCommunity Real; and Cool Stuff.  Feel free to submit a proposal on any topic you think might interest EclipseCon attendees. For details on submitting, see http://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/submissions-are-open. The submission deadline is November 11.
 
We are also hosting two sub-conferences at EclipseCon 2012. OSGi DevCon will once again highlight the latest OSGi technologies. Agile ALM Connect is a new conference that will connect the latest developments around Agile and ALM to the tools that make developers and teams more productive. More information about Agile ALM Connect is available at http://www.eclipsecon.org/2012/agilealm/cfp.

Machine-to-Machine Contest

Sierra Wireless and freeroidz are bringing you the M2M contest. Sierra Wireless will spread sensors and devices around the venue, and freedroidz will bring a robot made of Lego Mindstorms NXT. ECE 2011 brings a great line-up of tutorials for in-depth education on the latest Eclipse technologies. All tutorials are on Wednesday, November 2, 9:00 - 12:30.

Eclipse is organizing a series of Birthday Parties from November 1 - 30, 2011 to celebrate the 10th birthday of Eclipse. Eclipse DemoCamps are informal events that provide an opportunity for local Eclipse communities to meet in cities around the world -- to network, exchange ideas, and showcase the cool technology being built by the community.

 

We encourage Eclipse member companies and Eclipse committers to organize and/or sponsor a local Birthday Party/DemoCamp. To help pay for the birthday celebration, the Eclipse Foundation will add $100 in sponsorship money for the events that include a birthday cake (for a maximum of $400 per event). Funds are limited, so if you would like to organize an event, sign up soon! Please see the DemoCamp guidelines for details on organizing and sponsoring.
