Bernd,
I definitely agree that we need to keep EclipseCon as the main Eclipse 
conference and to make sure it covers the breadth of the community and 
technology, but I'm not sure what about my email caused you to think 
that we are "reducing the spectrum"?  EclipseCon will not be like ESE: 
ESE has evolved into a conference that is more focused on the system 
integrator side of the Eclipse eco-system while EclipseCon has evolved 
into a conference that is more focused on people who build on Eclipse or 
use Eclipse. I don't see that changing.

That said, EclipseCon will be different this year simply because 
attendance will be down from the peak and thus we cannot afford to rent 
as much space without a massive fee hike and thus we will have less 
space. So the question for everyone involved (operations and program 
committee) becomes "how do we make a really great EclipseCon that we all 
want to see in the smaller space available to us".

P.S. If Donald is correct and our 2010 attendance is actually *greater* 
than last year (Donald is estimating ~1,000) we can still fit that into 
the conference facility. As he mentioned, I remain conservative on the 
numbers - perhaps the final attendance will be somewhere between my low 
and his high.
