[eclipse.org-committers] Eclipse GitLab migration to France, GitHub and GitLab 2FA

Greetings folks, I have three topics for your attention:

Beginning Saturday, June 25, 2022 Eclipse GitLab will move to a new hosting facility in France. During the migration, which is expected to take several hours, GitLab will either be in read-only mode, or completely unavailable, which will likely affect builds that occur during that time. Track the issue [1] or follow the Status updates [2]

Inspired by the industry's recent interest in Security, on October 1, 2022 we intend on requiring 2FA for Eclipse GitLab. Currently, 2FA is optional, and you can enable it now using your account profile: https://gitlab.eclipse.org/-/profile/account  You can track the issue with [3]. The Eclipse Foundation is in the process of reevaluating its applications and authentication practices and settings.

With similar inspiration, GitHub announced it will require 2FA for developer authentication by EOY 2023. The EF is proposing making 2FA mandatory on the organizations it manages on the same date as GitLab, October 1, 2022.  Please use https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipsefdn/helpdesk/-/issues/477 for comments, and to see the background.

Thank you for your continued understanding while we work towards providing a better infra.

Denis
