[eclipse.org-committers] Eclipse Infrastructure update

Greetings,

Here is a quick update on the server front.

1. Bugzilla 3.2, upgrade
2. blogs.eclipse.org Wordpress upgrade
3. dev/download.eclipse.org disk space
4. Backend server upgrade

1. Bugzilla 3.2, upgrade
========================

At long last Bugzilla 3.2 has been released. We'll let it simmer a few weeks to make sure it's stable, and we'll perform the upgrade the weekend of Dec. 14 if all goes well.

This new release brings many new features that Eclipse committers have been asking for:

- Major UI improvements, new, modern skin
- Reassign a bug at the same time as you are changing its status.
- Patches in the Diff Viewer now show line numbers
- Improved Flags
- No more 'freezing' for minutes while tables are locked by large searches. This will be a silent crowd pleaser for sure.

2. blogs.eclipse.org Wordpress upgrade
======================================

The Wordpress blogging facility at http://blogs.eclipse.org will get a much-needed overhaul this week. Expect the entire site to be down Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 10:00am EST for about one hour.

3. dev/download.eclipse.org disk space
======================================

We're approaching the 85% full threshold for disk space on the dev/download.eclipse.org cluster, so we'll be acquiring additional disk space in early 2009. In the interim, we appreciate your continued efforts in managing disk space efficiently.

4. Backend server upgrade
=========================

We can't upgrade/update our pair of backend servers (the file, database and authentication servers) very often, as it is very intrusive to do so. We will take advantage of the slow Holiday season to do that. Although there won't be any outages, during the upgrade, our entire site will be put in 'read-only' mode, meaning CVS commits and uploading files will fail, and Bugzilla will be shut down.

I will post the date of the upgrade as soon as I know it.
