Re: [eclipse.org-architecture-council] Real names in git commit messages
Thank you Mike for the fast response - I can use that when engaging potential contributors in the future.

I don't know if it is a *significant* impediment. I like interacting with other contributors on a real name basis, but I would prefer their contributions more than knowing their names. I will wait for others on this list to weigh in to decide if we should proceed further will re-examining the issue.

Of course the next question would be: why do we require that? I believe that this position even pre-dates the creation of the Eclipse Foundation (i.e. IBM wrote that in 2001), and was originally motivated by wanting clear, documented provenance for all code distributed by our projects. However, if the consensus of this group is that this is a significant impediment to contributions and it is no longer considered industry best practice, the EMO would be happy to re-examine the issue.
