Re: [eclipse.org-architecture-council] JSR Proposal: Desktop Application Framework

Not sure it’s a bad idea, but I would classify it more as fool hearty. I’m not sure what’s changed in the world since 296 died to think it would succeed this time. This would have been a good idea 10 years ago when we could have standardized the Java community on a single app framework. But now, there aren’t enough desktop or mobile Java apps out there to warrant the investment to move away from existing frameworks. Hell, I worry enough about getting JavaFX finished (and I have to agree with him on that point sadly).

Doug.

Bad idea.

And I'm not seeing a concrete sign of any new JSR. It just looks like a guy with a blog who has his own app framework talking about proposing one. The only JSR mentioned is 296, which is dead. Is there a new JSR number?

I thought many people here would be interested in knowing that there is
a new attempt to create a Java standard for desktop applications. The
link below explains the reasoning, and mentions Eclipse 4 and SWT
several times.

Anyone have an opinion on whether this is a good thing or a bad thing?
