https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=305266
Product/Component: Community / Architecture Council

Summary: simplify specification of installable units
    Classification: Eclipse Foundation
           Product: Community
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: Architecture Council
        AssignedTo: eclipse.org-architecture-council@xxxxxxxxxxx
        ReportedBy: steffen.pingel@xxxxxxxxxxx

Some suggestions to simplify specification of features for marketplace
solutions:

Discussion with the P2 team (bug 299245) indicated that it would be better to
only support a single feature per solution, i.e. each Marketplace solution
corresponds to exactly one feature that gets installed. Instead of having a
table of Installable Units in the Web UI it would be sufficient to have a
single entry field labeled "Feature ID" which is easier to understand than
Installable Unit.

It would be nice to have a standard format for specifying Eclipse versions that
could be used to filter listings for the MPC. For MPC it would be relevant to
select the compatible release trains for a solution. Similar to the Platform
Support option There could be a check box for each release train. Initially
only "Helios (3.6)" would be available and additional releases would be added
in the future. If the Eclipse platform field already existed the check boxes
could be added as additional fields to not interfere with existing entries.
