I see how the change is useful, but there was also a concern on whether it should be API, from Alex.
So I think Alex should also have a word here àI’ll give a +0.5 for the backport.

Please approve backporting of patches for bug 499010to 4.6.2. The patches contain four new APIs listed in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=499010#c23. The usefulness of the added APIs should be clear from their Javadocs.
