[eclipse-pmc] Fw: [eclipse.org-planning-council] Proposed Milestone schedule for Luna

In this week's Planning Council meeting we discussed the Luna schedule. In 2014 EclipseCon NA is one week earlier than usual and hence conflicts with M6 as currently planned. Most PC members favored completing M6 before EclipseCon. The newly proposed schedule means the following changes compared to what we currently planned for our project [1]:

- M5 will be one week shorter, finishing on Friday, January 24 (instead of January 31)
- M6 duration stays the same but ends on Friday March 7 (instead of March 14)
- M7 will be one week longer, ending as planned on Friday May 2

Please speak up if you have objections to these new milestone dates.

Dani

As we discussed at today's (8/7) meeting, I have adjusted the schedule so that M6 completes before EclipseCon, even though effectively that makes M5 shorter than usual, given that many projects "lose a week" for end-of-year holidays (we often allow 7 weeks for it).

I know it "looks funny" to allocate 8 weeks for M7 ... but ... I could not really think of anything else that would really be constructive,
given the other dates we have to work with ... "end of year holidays" and "EclipseCon" week. I mean, we could have 5 RC's instead of 4, but not sure that's going to really change anything. Maybe a long M7 will give projects time to do more work on performance!

I've tried to include the schedule in this note, but not sure how well it will format, so if does not format well, please see

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Luna/Simultaneous_Release_Plan#Schedule

I'll share this on "cross-project list" as the proposed schedule, but as promised, will give you all time to discuss with your projects/adopters to see if some small tweak would be better. We will make final decision at September meeting (but, no need to wait till then ... you can post suggestions/corrections to this mailing list). But, until then ... for the first, and second, milestone, will consider it accurate so we can plan aggregation builds.
