[eclipse-pmc] Re: PMC meeting tomorrow: Java6

This is a good discussion fr the PMC mailing list.

- wiki pages are a good thing.  we do this for the RT PMC, Equinox, p2, ... calls.
- good to put all topics there
- If there is a topic that requires prep, email to the pmc list is the best bet IMHO
- for CVS perms issues, please enter a bug report to get your permissions set properly.

In most cases, it won't matter too much if we're not prepared, because if we need to look up anything we can start the discussion one week and continue the next; or, if we anticipate that preparation is necessary, we can E-Mail each other before the meeting.

I basically see two options here:
(a) keeping the current organization, or
(b) doing a very lightweight Wiki organization, for instance a single Wiki page to hold multiple weeks' meetings, just mentioning topics as buzzwords.

Again, given that we're a small group and most of our topics are reflected in the following arch call anyways, I think that anything beyond that would be overkill. The single wiki page agenda might help though as a "notepad" for remembering things to talk about.

If we agree in the meeting today, I can create
to hold notes.

BTW, I tried adding myself to the PMC page but CVS didn't grant me write access on
   /cvsroot/org.eclipse/www/eclipse/team-leaders.php
patch is attached for anybody who has access.

The limitation with it is that it is hard to come prepared about a topic you do not know about... so I like the idea of the wiki you can look at in advance.
Also this would give our team more visibility into what we do.

At one point we discussed having open discussion of PMC topics (on mailing list or wiki), but it turns out that there sometimes issues that we need to discuss *before* we come forward to the community. As Philippe said, collecting topics at the start of the call generally works well for us as long as the topic isn't going to take up the whole time.

Normally, we ask for topics at the beginning of the call.

We do not carry a wiki agenda, though we should certainly do so for increased transparency especially with you around now.

For PMC approvals, normally each owner of the code jumps in, but if you feel strongly pro/against, please let know, but please consult with PMC owner first (so we look like we speak one voice if possible).

Hi Philippe and Mike,

tomorrow I'd like to talk about
  • Java6 as reference platform. It's related to the UNC discussion.
  • Who's triaging the "PMC Approve" requests, should I too?
I wasn't sure what's the right way of adding items to the agenda, so I'm mailing you privately first.

Cheers,
