The Eclipse Development Process (EDP) is a process that exists to help committers and their projects be successful. Wayne Beaton will be presenting a webinar on the EDP on November 24.  He will start with a discussion of the principles that underlie the EDP and why they are important to committers. He will then discuss the various processes that are in place to ensure that principles are maintained. More specifically, this webinar will explain how the EDP can help committers reach out to their community of users and adopters. Together, Equinox and OSGi provide a fundamental infrastructure for defining modules, managing lifecycles and facilitating collaboration between modules. Both are addressing the programming challenges in dynamic, modular and extensible systems.

 

The webinar will start with a short introduction to Cloud computing. Using the g-Eclipse framework, a distributed, virtual infrastructure will be set-up. Leveraging OSGi and ECF frameworks, a manageable distributed runtime will be started in order to deploy an application dynamically. The front end for the application will be provided with the support of the RAP application. The live demonstration will show how "goodies" from the Eclipse ecosystem can be combined to build a future SaaS platform.

Glimmer is a JRuby API for SWT that takes advantage of the expressive Ruby language to provide a simple user-interface DSL (domain-specific language). Developers can rely on Glimmer to build the presentation layer of desktop applications in Ruby while keeping the business logic in Java, or alternatively do complete desktop application development in Ruby. Glimmer comes with built-in data-binding support to greatly facilitate writing maintainable and testable desktop application code.

In an upcoming webinar, Andy Maleh will introduce Glimmer, demo the latest features by contrasting the code of an application written in both Glimmer and classic SWT, provide a quick update on the status of the project and finally, have a Q&A and feedback session.
