It's probably due to not having a JDK or JRE installed, with its bin 
directory on your path.
The Eclipse drops don't ship with a JDK or JRE.

If this is the case, you should have seen an error dialog indicating it 
couldn't find the Java VM.

I find the simplest approach is to download the 1.3 JRE, then copy the jre 
directory to the eclipse directory.

I downloaded the eclipse-SDK-R1.0-win32.zip file from eclipse.org site and 
unzipped it.

Tried starting the eclipse.exe file and nothing happens.

Any thoughts?
