Re: [ecf-dev] remote services, load balancing

Hi Scott,

I got the latest code from HEAD and everything is working as expected.
This is a very nice feature because now the consumer's usage of services is completely transparent.
Thank you!

My understanding is that some extensions has to be made to the activemq provider in order to use ds for the service host and the servers.
Is that correct and do you have any plans to extends this provider? Should I file a bug for this issue?

Best regards,
Greg

Subject: Re: [ecf-dev] remote services, load balancing

Hi Folks (and Greg),

I've added a new consumer example project, that uses declarative services...along with OSGi remote services...to simplify the consumer/client significantly.  Also enhanced the load balancing service host so that it published the remote service using OSGi remote services (and jmdns discovery)...so that the consumer's usage of the lb remote service can be completely transparent as described by Greg's use case.

See this bug/enhancement for information about where the new example project is:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=310522

See this page for instructions for setting up/using the load balancing facilities for ECF remote services.

http://wiki.eclipse.org/Load_Balancing_Remote_Services#Load_Balancing_ECF_Remote_Services

As it turns out, I created the bundle from scratch as it was/is very simple and small....but thanks to Greg for offering to make his code available for testing.

Scott

> *BUT*...even if you are using HEAD....I think that there could be a bug in the ActiveMQ/JMS provider.  Specifically, when containers are discovered, and the DefaultProxyContainerFinder is consulted to find a suitable container, part of what the DefaultProxyContainerFinder does (using the auto create option that was changed in 303979) is that it gets the meta-data from the discovery and looks for a *compatible* container type.  By 'looks', I mean that it calls this method on container instantiatiors:

>
> But it is quite possible that the JMS/ActiveMQ provider implementation of the getImportedConfigs method does not match with the load balancing container types (as these are 'special'), returns null, and the client container is never created/found by the DefaultProxyContainerFinder on the consumer.  Does this fit with what you are seeing?  BTW...what discovery mechanism are you using?  And do you have evidence that it is working properly on your net?
