Re: [ecf-dev] Discontinue XMPP on ecf.eclipse.org

Hi Markus,

As far as I'm concerned, the main purpose for xmpp server at ecf.eclipse.org has been and will be for testing. With Nuwan's summer of code project [1] adding enhancements to XMPP provider as well as the Equinox XMPP server work [2], and the Google Wave stuff (which is also based upon XMPP) [3], Smack 3 (can't find bug #), and the continuing work on rt shared editing over xmpp it might be good if we could have a test XMPP server around and running, as the xmpp.eclipse.org server doesn't have extra user accounts, necessary config, etc.

Perhaps someone else could volunteer to administer this XMPP server for the coming year...and so spread the burden of doing so.

Hi,

on August 5th ecf.eclipse.org is going to be replaced by a new virtual
machine image [1]. Since it takes time and efforts to run and maintain
the XMPP installation on it, I wonder if we could discontinue this
service and not reinstall XMPP on the new machine. Especially with the
foundation's xmpp.eclipse.org up and running for a while, most of us
have probably moved away from ecf.eclipse.org anyway.
