So I am assuming there are a number of things I am doing wrong.  Does anyone have any "best practices" or advice for a guy just starting with git & e4 development?

In addition to what Curtis suggested, I would also recommend:

1) use the Git Staging view when creating your commits
2) Show the repo you're working on in the history view from the Git Repository explorer view (as opposed to choosing a workspace project to show in the history view).

I usually create patches by right-clicking on the commit in the history view.

If you hit any other snags, feel free to ask.

Later,
