Re: [e4-dev] e4 release name / number

Hello,

noob's suggestion: why not mirroring both "label name" and "version number": e.g. have 0.201007.0 as the version, and R0_201007 as the tag ?

(of course, 201007 as in 2010-07 aka "2010 July" => and if you have only one release per month, everything's ok with versioning ordering)
Regards,

Just a heads up on a naming issue that came up this morning. This won't matter to most people but thought it worth mentioning in case anyone finds it confusing.

Since e4 is an incubator we cannot declare releases with version numbers >= 1.0. For that reason we changed our plans and other documents to refer to the e4 incubator portion of today's release simply as the "July 2010" release. However we discovered while promoting the final build this morning that various scripts involved in build promotion and mirroring require a traditional release number. So, we settled on 0.10.0 as the version number of today's e4 release. We are still generally referring to it as the "July 2010" release, but be aware that in zip file names you will see the 0.10 number, and the tag for the release in the e4 CVS repository is R0_10.
