This is mentioned on the self-hosting wiki page but there is no open bug about it.

I've not tried closing perspectives yet since they've only been implemented in the last week or two. It not working sounds believable.

If you mean the stuff in the tool bar, then yes they won't do anything.

You'll need to install the EMF SDK and Tom's and/or Yves's editor if you don't want to use Notepad like me.

I can't comment on this since I'm not familiar with the design. This was just delivered last week so it may just be a temporary drop-in.

I think that's because of bug 314641. I was going to email the list to warn other people...guess I should've actually followed through with that thought.
