Re: [e4-dev] a new look for the workbench

Sorry I wasn't clear in my original posting.

I would appreciate it if we could keep the discussion in the bug report. [1].
We will be opening up dependent bugs when there is a specific topic to discuss or perhaps vote on.
I also plan to post mockups on the wiki, but this bug is really the "official" place where we'll notify folks as to new mockups and ask questions or spin off other discussions. Periodically I will ping this list (and in the future, other lists and or newsgroups) with pointers to interesting bug discussions.

thanks,
susan

Do you want the discussion to be split between this list and the bug report or kept in one place (which one)?

Thanks

Re: [e4-dev] a new look for the workbench

Hi Susan,

Thanks for creating the mockups. It's great to see some alternative looks. Here's my initial reaction.

1. I like the rounded corners and the general open feeling. I can see how this design would work well for Eclipse apps targeted at the web.

2. The flip side to this, though, is that the design introduces quite a bit of white space. I'm generally a fan of white space, but this might be too much for an IDE.

3. The design discards some boundary definition that I find helpful. Particularly in the editor tabs, where the class names all blend together.

These are just some initial reactions, and I'd be curious to hear what others think..

Regards,

--- Patrick
