[dtp-dev] Notes on the DTP 1.6M5 1/24 build

The DTP 1.6M5 1/24 build is now available on the download site. This build
introduces a substantial change at a fundamental level of DTP -- removal of
EMF-SDO dependencies (see BZ208455*). A few minor fixes had to be
introduced for today's build (see change log at
http://www.eclipse.org/datatools/dtp1.6_changelog.html) but, given the
scope of the effort and the nature of the changes, things have gone very
well. Initial smoke testing looks good, so we should thank Der-Ping and the
Model Base team for a good job!

A couple of issues remain: the update to the SQL model removes a public
method, and hence potentially breaks downstream extenders (as it did in the
Enablement project). The details have been noted in BZ216485** for adopters
who might want to check their code. With these changes, the EMF-SDO
dependency has been removed from the core DTP frameworks and tools, and now
only the Sybase Enablement feature uses it (see BZ216487 for details***).
In a quick check of this code it was not immediately clear to me whether
the usage of EMF-SDO is required by these plug-ins, or whether they can be
refactored out in the same way as was done in Model Base. I have assigned
this bug to Model Base for consultation, and have cc'ed the Sybase
Enablement component lead so we can determine a way forward that makes
sense for all parties.

Please download this latest nightly build and let us know if you find
additional problems.
