Thanks Der-Ping. This was most useful as I
am pretty new to Eclipse. I wanted to review the model as it was submitted for
relational modeling in the IMM. We have been working on relational modeling in
the ArgoUML project. See http://argouml-db.tigris.org/

Jeff,
In
the model driven development process with in Eclipse DTP, if you have a
proposal for changing Model Base:
- You can use either use UML tooling such as
Rational Rose to edit the model to submit your changing proposal
- or you can use Eclipse ECore editor to do changes
the model as your proposal.
The proposal will be reviewed, similar to what we have
on the model base WIKI site:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Model_Base#Proposal_for_improvements_to_the_Authorization_.26_Access_Control_package_of_SQLModel
If
your goal is to develop a specialize model to support what is beyond SQL Spec,
again you can use UML or ECore Model editor to go about doing it. Attached is a
snapshot of how the ECore Editor works.
For
example; you can edit by double clicking the sqlodel.ecore within your Eclipse
Java IDE/Package Explorer:

RE: [dtp-dev] Model base still active?
|

Thanks Der-Ping. I have looked around on
these sites but have trouble getting started. DTP seems to be working OK
but I can’t find anything on getting started with UML modeling.
Should I be using the Database Development perspective?
Here’s all I can find in the help facility about Model Base:
Model Base
The
Model Base project provides the foundation for database development using the
data tools platform (DTP).
The
Model Base project uses best practices, like model-driven development with UML,
and the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF). The Model Base project includes the
following components.
· Database
definition model
· Edit model
· SQL model
· SQL Query
model
· SQL XML
Query model
The
Model Base project provides the following key benefits and features.
· Change
management support – Models can be version controlled through Eclipse
team support.
· Editing
support – Visual model editing and other kinds of model editing are
integrated with the EMF and EMF model generation.
· JavaDocs
– Models are published with documentation to support DTP users.
· Extensibility
– Models are extensible and not contingent on any particular database
management system.
· Standards-compliant
– Models comply with standards such as SQL and JDBC connectivity.
· Samples
– Sample code and plug-ins demonstrate model use.

Jeff,
Yes, the model base is still very 'alive' but stable.
Please let me know if following WIKI related to model base project helps:
http://wiki.eclipse.org/Model_Base
http://www.eclipse.org/datatools/ or
http://www.eclipse.org/datatools/project_modelbase/modelbase_doc/uml/SQLModel/root.html
Since we still use the model itself as our documentation. Please let me know if
you have question in certain area of model base project.

[dtp-dev] Model base still active?
|
|
Hi,
Can anyone help with info on the model base project? Is it still active?
There isn’t much in the dpt-model-dev archive. I tried to
figure out how to use it in the latest DPT download but can’t find any
docs or hints.
