RE: [dsdp-pmc] "NAB-MWT plug-in" and "NAB demo player" as a "non-exemptpre-req" dependency for MWT libraries and their C++ headers

+1 from Martin for non-exempt pre-req.

Reasoning: NAB cannot work at all without MWT. NAB is a GUI builder that targets MWT. So both at development time (wen building the UI), and at runtime (when running the generated application), the MWT libraries need to be present (headers at build-time only). I am not aware of any platform where MWT is pre-installed. Users need to download and install MWT separately.

FYI, MWT is developed under a BSD license and is available from http://www.widestudio.org

Cheers,

Subject: [dsdp-pmc] "NAB-MWT plug-in" and "NAB demo player" as a "non-exemptpre-req" dependency for MWT libraries and their C++ headers

Dear PMC,

as per the new Eclipse 3rd Party Dependencies process [1], the NAB project needs to document an external dependency from "NAB-MWT plug-in" and sample application "NAB demo player" to the WideStudio libraries.

NAB is a platform for native application builder, and NAB have a 2 part such as NAB core and Native toolkit Interface(NTK). NAB core in-depends from 3rd party resource but usually NTK depends it. NAB-MWT is sample implementation of NTK interface and it depends MWT libraries and their C++ headers.

This situation is same as establishment time of NAB project. This request is based on new Eclipse 3rd Party Dependencies process.

I think that this clearly qualifies the "NAB-MWT plug-in" and "NAB demo player" as a "non-exempt pre-req" dependency.

As per the 3rd party dependencies process, the DSDP PMC now needs to discuss this publicly and agree that it is indeed a "non-exempt pre-req" dependency. Please read the process [1] for more information about how "non-exempt pre-req" is defined, then respond here on the mailing list with your +1 or -1 or comments or questions.
