RE: [dsdp-pmc] Search CVS

FYI,

Orbit is not really valuable in SearchCVS (and I should most likely take it out
again), because it is organized with every contents in different branches which
are different per bundle and version. SearchCVS only looks at one branch
(HEAD by default, but more branches can be indexed if necessary), so from
Orbit there is practically no information.

This just occurred to me and I suppose I should take it out again.

Cheers,

Thank you Martin.

Ok project leads, this is incentive to get your projects enabled. DD, TM, and Orbit are in there. Here’s the description and recall Martin offered to help get your projected lists.

Ok, I did it:

  • Added a SearchCVS link to the DSDP navbar
  • Added description on the "DSDP SearchCVS" page to indicate what projects are indexed - This addresses my concerns

Try it out here: http://www.eclipse.org/dsdp/searchcvs.php?q=days%3A+7

Well, at least how about a title change for the page, which currently says “Target Management (RSE)”.

My counter argument is that users might want to use this simply to find text matches for bugs. Yes, they can use CVS directly for that, too. But this is a simpler front-end.

Hm... I don't think so, for two reasons:

1.) This is a tool mostly for "insiders". Insiders will know where to find it.

2.) As long as not all DSDP projects are included, it's likely more confusing than helpful.

But I'm always swayed by a good counter argument...

This really is a cool feature Martin.

Does it make sense to move the TM page to the main dsdp page, since hopefully more projects in DSDP will sign up to use this?
