Re: [dsdp-pmc] PLEASE VOTE: Contribution Questionnaires for MTJ Reboot

One more update:

Hugo updated the Antenna CQ to reflect the intended use/porting to use the Antlr 3.0 library, which is pre-approved by Eclipse.

"Danke" Martin for all the valuable input, and Thanks Doug for the "thumbs up"

:)

I'll go ahead and update the CQ's to move them along the process.

Christian can do the +1's. I just wanted to make sure we discussed it
here.

Ok,

Looks like Hugo has revoked the Antenna request and explained
The Jetty Piggyback; I'm also good with getting in TrueZip
For bootstrapping.

So I'm +1 for all remaining requests -- how long do we want
To keep the ballot open, and who wants to give the +1 on the
CQ's on behalf of the PMC?

Hi martin,

About the Jetty question, our initial plan on MTJ is to
provide it as a
standalone download without any additional eclipse feature, similar
to
what currently happen with eclipseME (that might change in
the future).
MTJ will depend on Eclipse Platform and JDT and one of the platform
functionalities that we will use is Jetty.

Reboot

Hi all,

After answers from Hugo and more investigation, I'm

-1 for antenna.preprocessor because the version requested
would be unusable due to ANTLR dependency. MTJ will need
to first upgrade Antenna to new ANTLR outside Eclipse,
and then file a CQ for the updated antenna.

+1 for TrueZIP since it looks nice, and in order to
bootstrap the MTJ project. Might be a hard CQ though,
since it seems to include cryptography.

+1 for Jetty since that's just a Piggyback CQ. They'd be
re-using Jetty out of Orbit which is fine for me if they
think they want to ship it in a standalone download
without the Platform. Not sure if that's really required
   though. Hugo?

Hi Martin,

I've answered some of your questions regarding TrueZip and Antenna
Preprocessor as comments in proper CQs. Can we keep the discussion
there?

Hi all,

+1 for EclipseME
https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2233
I'm very excited to get this under the Eclipse
Foundation Umbrella.
+1 for Jetty https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2235
pending the answer if/why it needs to be packaged separately
rather than just using what's in the Platform.
It's not much of an issue though since this is a Piggyback CQ
anyways so MTJ will actually use the Lib out of Orbit, right?

-1 for TrueZip for now - we also have code for transparently
accessing TAR, TGZ, ZIP, WAR archives as part of RSE. Why not
re-use what we already have? I commented on the CQ:
   https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2236#c8

+1 for ObjectWeb ASM 3.0
https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2237
that's just a piggyback on existing approved lib from the
Platform (it's actually used for 3.4M6 API Tooling AFAIK)

-1 for Antenna Preprocessor for now, there are some open
questions with respect to Provenience and unmodified or
modified usage that I raised on the CQ and need to be answered:
   https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2243#c9

Regarding my -1's: If you just want to get started on EclipseME
Quickly I'm OK with adding TrueZip just to bootstrap and
migrate To TM

/ RSE libs later. I'd still want to understand the
differences Between

TrueZip and our offering. In fact we might eventually want To do
it
the other way round, and replace our offering with TrueZip.

For Antenna just do a little more investigations before we Blindly
approve this, thanks.

Reboot

Hello PMC,

As some of you may be aware, the MTJ project is undergoing some
"rebooting" at the moment.

As part of this, we are proposing to import large pieces of
"EclipseME", a project developed by Craig Setera (now a MTJ
committer).

EclipseME has several dependencies on other Open Source
libraries and
projects.
The MTJ team filed a series of Contribution Questionaires in
IP-Zilla, and is awaiting "PMC Approval".

EclipseME code: Created by Craig Setera, EPL

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2233

Jetty: used as library, unmodified Apache 2.0 license

<https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2234>

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2235

TrueZip: used as library, unmodified Apache 2.0 license

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2236

ASM version 3.0, pre-approved by EclipseLegal, used as
library, BSD license

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2237

Antenna 1.0, preprocessor library, we will need to port this
library to
support Antlr 3.0 library as per bug id=2234. I would
still want to
vote to import version 1.0 for now.

https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2243

I ask the members of the PMC to review the CQ's, and cast a
vote, so
Doug can go ahead and communicate the outcome to the Eclipse
Legal team.

Please take a few minutes, and cast your vote by Friday,
April 11th.
Vote +1 on all Christian

Thanks!

-Christian
