RE: [dsdp-pmc] Jolt Awards

J  By definition, a jolt is a shock you get from electricity.  It’s often used in English idioms to mean “getting something started quickly”.  Jolt Cola, from which this award name sort-of originates, is a super-caffeinated, high-sugar cola that was popular in the US in the 80’s.  I guess we have energy drinks like Red Bull now.

Anyway, I think it’s reasonable to nominate open source projects.  It’s a long shot, but it’s got potential.  May TM is a little obscure technically, but perhaps eRCP might have a shot.

Well they expect nominees that "jolted" the industry. I'm afraid my English skills are not good enough to fully understand what "jolting the industry" is supposed to mean, and the dictionaries that I've been using have not really been helpful.

For TM 1.0, we've had about 250 downloads, and I do expect that our work is going to make some change to the industry in the near future - though it didn't probably make too much of a change yet in 2006. If this qualifies for "jolting", and you think it's worth the effort, I'll happily nominate TM.

Cheers,

Anyone care to nominate one of our projects?  eRCP 1.0 and TM 1.0 seem like good potential candidates.  There is a cost and a little effort associated with nomination.  I wonder if the foundation will sponsor the submission cost.

Eclipse committers and project leads:

Please see the message from Scott Ambler below. The Jolt award

nominations are now open.  The various Eclipse products and plug-ins are

definitely eligible for awards, assuming that a version of them was

released sometime in 2006.
