No I was using the menu you get by selecting the project in the Package Explorer window then getting the pop-up (*) menu and selecting "Mobile Tools for Java" -> "Convert to Midlet Project" (I have now fully converted all my projects to MTJ so I can't actually do any further experimentation based on EclipseME projects. Sorry.)
