Re: [dsdp-mtj-dev] Next MTJ Call: 21/July/2008 - meeting minutes

I have sent an email on this topic to see if we can get any ideas.

Hi Craig,
By now we are trying to have antenna preprocessor approved to use by IP
team (https://dev.eclipse.org/ipzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=2444). Omry has
already commited to contribute this code and I think we will be OK with
this CQ, if not for this release, for the next one.

The missing thing is the hooks stuff which I did not have time to
understand at all. As you have more knowledge about the problem, it
would be great with you start the discussions with OSGi guys. Please,
include us in the loop so we can keep it if you run out of time.

Eric,

I understand your thinking on this... but I still have some concerns about how this is going to work out. My ultimate goal is to retire EclipseME when MTJ is ready to replace it. For those that are using the

preprocessor support, MTJ will not be ready... which stretches the lifetime of EclipseME and therefore my necessary commitment to that project. Time spent on EclipseME is time not spent on MTJ... And given how little time I'm finding these days that could be significant.

I think splitting out the preprocessor is something we should seriously consider. The other alternative is to find a way to get this through legal approval...

Did anyone ever talk to the OSGi guys about the ability to use a jar file in those hooks? Is that something that I should ask them about?

Thanks,
Craig

I would rather not split this out and have a hybrid project. On the other hand, I do not want to delay things any further than absolutely necessary. My feeling is we should keep the preprocessor inside MTJ, but do the next release(s) with our current capability (that is, without preprocessor). Eric Hildum

I was thinking about the preprocessor issues. I'd hate to lose that support, but I'd also hate to have it hold up the release. I'm wondering if we should also consider an option where we split that functionality out of the base plugins and I host it outside of Eclipse? It would take some work, but it might be the best of both worlds for those that still want that functionality on top of MTJ.

Thoughts?
