Re: [Dltk-dev] DLTK mature release 1.0 - September 2008?

i'm potentially interested in becoming an incubation project. is there some place where i can read about how that process works?

at what point would the check in freeze be put in place for the 1.0 release?

Hi folks,

Please share your thoughts about to release DLTK 1.0 somewhere in September 2008. Goals for the release:

* Graduate from Incubator and become mature project.
* Adopt new Eclipse Development Process, which allow us to have subprojects at different maturity levels, so we'll keep Python as incubated DLTK component and welcome other language implementation (such as Perl if Jae wish to join).
* Form a solid foundation for current adopters such as PDT and 3rdRail. I guess adopters may request breaking API changes in near future (PDT 2.0 to be released in September). So I propose to finalize API during 1.0 cycle and make it stable and complete enough for adopters during next year or so.
* Tentative release date is September 12, which is synchronized with PDT 2.0 release... Other interested parties please comment on this date.

In fact this looks like a kind of interim release, some adopters may feel comfortable with 0.95 released to Ganymede. However if some project would like to release against 0.95 stream, that product must work with 0.95.0. I'm not sure this will be a case for PDT due to they started adoption late in the cycle. Not sure about 3rdRail, and anxiously looking for comments.

Also if we think 1.0 release in next few month is mandatory, please post additional goals for the release.

Kind Regards,
Andrey
