[dali-dev] JAXB and Database Web Service support

As most of you know, Dali has been spending the majority of the last several milestones working on JAXB tooling.  We have also been working on support for EclipseLink's Database Web Service functionality.  Given the related nature of these features with existing WTP Web Services, representatives from the Dali and Web Services teams met to discuss the possible integrations between the two feature sets.  The following is a summary of the output from the meeting.  Please feel free to provide any additional feedback you may have.  Thanks.

Agenda:
  • Review JAXB related Dali features targeted for Indigo

  • Review JAXB related tooling available in Web Services tools (Annotation Properties view, etc)
  • Discuss the addition of EclipseLink Database Web Services tooling to WTP, and how this should be integrated with existing WTP functionality

Summary
  • Dali plans to add JAXB facet and library configuration, along with JAXB model validation and code completion.  No specific integration into Web Services tooling was identified
  • JAXB tooling in the Web Services area was reviewed, and included only the Annotation Properties view.  Bug 325364 was mentioned as an upcoming enhancement for Indigo related to the Annotation Properties view.  There are a couple of other JAX-WS related enhancements scheduled for Indigo, as seen by the plan document[1].
  • The new Database Web Service functionality (which currently consists of a wizard) was discussed, and feedback indicated that it would be best to keep this functionality isolated for now in its own New... category, as opposed to being included in existing "Web Services" categories in the WTP UI.  That would be until there was some demand or obviousness for it to be included in the Web Services category. It was also suggested that "Database Web Services" might be the best choice of name for the category so that it would be a more broad container for other possible wizards.
