Re: [dali-dev] Dali Planning

I'd like to raise the issue of adding JPA support to an existing Java project.  The move from a nature to a facet for JPA support has made it impossible to do this.  I'd like to either see generic support from the facet framework for upgrading an existing project to use facets or specific support for converting Java projects to JPA enabled faceted projects.  This may not be a big issue for WTP in general but JPA is an SE/EE technology and Dali tools need to be easily accessible to anyone developing Java programs in Eclipse.  Developers shouldn't have to build an entirely new project (probably hierarchy) just to get JPA tool support.

John Lanuti logged a bug for this: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=191717.  The response from Konstantin was not encouraging.

Adopters,

We are going to be thinking about Dali (2.0?) in the near future, so I wanted to start a thread to gather any new requirements that may have come up recently.  Much of what has been discussed is either logged as an enhancement, or is documented on the wiki here - http://wiki.eclipse.org/Dali_Extension_Requirements_Meeting:_1-24-07.

What I would like to know is if there are any other things that we should be thinking about as we try to plan for the next major release.  Please feel free to use this e-mail thread to bring up anything that hasn't been logged yet.  We can discuss any new requirements and log appropriate bugs for them.  If necessary or desired, we could have a requirements call to discuss these new items as well.

Thanks,
Neil Hauge
